A vegan menu has launched at “Kita Minna no Sakura Kitchen”. This is the cafeteria of the Kita City Office in Tokyo. You will find it on Basement Floor 1 of City Hall Building No. 1. In fact, sales began on 3 August 2026.

A keema curry made with soy meat and plenty of vegetables

The new dish is a “Vegetable & Soy Meat Keema Curry”. Soy meat takes the place of animal meat. In addition, the curry has onion, red bell pepper and zucchini. Two snap peas also sit on top. Together they form the “V” of “VEGAN”.

The recipe uses no animal ingredients. As a result, the dish has earned the vegan certification of our organization, VegeProject Japan. The poster in the cafeteria carries our vegan certification mark.

How the vegan menu came about

Tokyo Business Service Co., Ltd. runs the cafeteria. The company already serves vegan-certified dishes at the Taito City Office cafeteria. Because of that know-how, VegeProject Japan asked the company to bring a vegan menu to Kita City Office as well. Meanwhile, our representative Haruko Kawano met Koto Sato. Ms Sato is a Kita City councillor of the Japan Innovation Party. After that talk, she also encouraged the company.

Councillor Sato studied in Ireland as a student. She also has vegetarian friends. Furthermore, she knows how our food choices affect the planet. For this reason, she backs more sustainable food options in the ward.

Where to try the vegan keema curry

Finally, we hope that many visitors to the Kita City Office will pick the “Vegetable & Soy Meat Keema Curry”. So if you are ever in the area, please drop by “Kita Minna no Sakura Kitchen” on the first basement floor.
