VegeProject Japan regularly welcomes interns from notorious universities of the United States. In May, 2023, Alexander Sessions and Ryan Tetreault have been hired to research on topics related to plant-based foods and vegan lifestyles. The interns have also cooperated with other activities, such as the production of the 3rd Edition of VegeMap.

On July 10th, the two interns held a presentation at Associate Professor Victor Gorshkov’s seminar in the Faculty of International Economic Studies of  University of Niigata Prefecture. For the presentation, they talked about their work at VegeProject, as well as why they chose the organization.

During a seminar class, Alex and Ryan discussed the significance of plant-based foods and their impact on both human health and the environment. In their presentation, they highlighted their role in VegeProject in collecting data and statistics about the expansion of the meat substitute market, the predicted rise in resource consumption and pollution caused by animal farming, as well as the health benefits of adopting a veggie-centric diet.

They also showed their work in turning the data found into easy-to-understand graphics and their involvement in adding new vegan restaurants to VegeMap. The students reacted positively to the presentation, with questions on what they can do to be more sustainable and what it means to be vegan or vegetarian. There was even some surprise when they learned that honey isn’t vegan. Overall, the presentation was very successful!

This presentation follows previous collaborations with Associate Professor Victor Gorshkov’s seminar, in the form of presentations and collaborations with research. Recently, students from the seminar have won a prize at a business contest after attending our presentation! It is our hope that we can shift opinion among new generations and make the idea of a plant-based world not only more desirable, but more attainable as well.
