University of Tokyo lecture on plant-based and other alternative meats – In December, lectures at Tohoku University & OIST Graduate University

The lecture “New Meat and a Sustainable Future” was held at the University of Tokyo’s Komaba Campus on November 4, 2022. A dual VegeProject intern and University of Tokyo student worked together with the UTokyo Sustainable Network Plant-Based Food Project to organize this event. In total, 200 students, university staff, business people, and members of the public attended this event.

University of Tokyo professor Takeuchi Shoji lectured on cultured meat and VegeProject representative Kawano Haruko lectured on veganism and plant-based lifestyles.
After, they were joined by students to conduct a panel discussion and answer audience questions.

Guests were gifted with free vegan meal tickets to be used in the university’s cafeterias, courtesy of the University of Tokyo Co-op, along with SOY Shoku Kenbi and Soy Meat Retort-Packaged Foods products donated by MD Holdings Co., Ltd. and 100PINE.co, respectively.
We are humbled by their generous support.

As for the addition of vegan options in select cafeterias, we partnered with the University of Tokyo Co-op to help make it happen.

We are very grateful to everyone who helped bring this event to life and to everyone who attended.
Students hold the keys to our future, so visiting their schools and raising awareness of veganism, plant-based diet and alternative meats as an option will continue to be important to us.
Check out our Instagram to see how it went!

All around the country, we conduct lectures on veganism and plant-based lifestyles. During December, we will be speaking at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (12th of Dec) and at Tohoku University (21st of Dec).
* The Tohoku University lecture will be restricted to those affiliated with the school.

If you’re a university student or staff member interested in hosting us for a lecture or event, please reach out.
