The keynote talk at the ifia/HFE JAPAN 2022

We participated in the seminar as a speaker at the “ifia/HFE JAPAN 2022” hosted at the Tokyo Big Sight from May 18th to May 20th. This exhibition covers leading functional food, ingredients, and additives in Japan.

Hosted by Food Chemical Newspaper Inc., this food exhibition has a long history. It is the 27th time for ifia JAPAN (International Foods Ingredients and Additives Exhibitions and Conference) and 20th time for HFE JAPAN (Health Foods Exposition and Conference).

Haruko Kawano, the director of the VegeProject Japan, gave a keynote talk for the seminar titled “New Protein Development and Application Technology in 2022”, which introduced exhibiters’ actions and their products. Kawano gave a lecture under the tile “Approaches for Plant-Based Food Market and Alternative Protein.”

We hope that the audiences who are working at food producers gained the deeper understanding about “plant-based” and “vegan” and got some tips to step forward to produce plant-based and vegan products through Haruko’s talk.

More audiences than the host expected came to the seminar, and there were even standing audiences. We saw the rise of interest in plant-based foods among people in the foods and additives industries.

The lecture at the University of Niigata Prefecture’s International Economics Department seminar

On May 16th, the director of the VegeProject Japan gave a special lecture, ” The basics of Vegetarian/Vegan, and its Potential in Japanese Food,” at the University of Niigata Prefecture’s International Economics Department Exercise I (Victor Gorshkov).

In the first part of the lecture, the director talked about the global trends in the vegan industry and the affinity between Japanese food and vegan food. The class also covered topics such as the possibility for Japanese companies to enter the vegan market so that even economics major students can be interested in vegan trends and start thinking about the issue.

Though the event was online, it was a meaningful time as teachers and students actively asked questions and suggested a potential strategy for Japanese businesses to enter the vegan market.
