Founder of VegeProject Japan Haruko Kawano has contributed a column to food magazine RiCE.

Published by Rice Press Corporation, RiCE focuses on Japanese food culture. Under the title “Ethical Food Catalog 23-24,” the November 2023 issue introduces a wide variety of environmentally and socially conscious dietary options.

The column titled “Why They Don’t Eat Meat” focuses on why many, including renowned figures such as musical artist Fujii Kaze and former Beatles member Paul McCartney, whom Haruko Kawano personally interviewed back in 2015 about Meat Free Monday, opt for vegetarian or vegan lifestyles. It explores the reasons behind such choices, emphasizing the positive impact they have on both animals and the environment.

Accompanying the two-page spread of the column are photographs from the McCartney interview, products certified vegan by our organization, and showcased vegan gourmet options.

The article highlights how embracing not eating animal is a compassionate choice for animals, the planet, and one’s own well-being. It’s crafted to be easily digestible, making it approachable even for those new to the concept of veganism.

RiCE magazine is available for purchase at bookstores and on Amazon.

We sincerely hope that this column will inspire more people to become interested in their food choices, and learn more about of vegetarian and vegan lifestyles.
