On January 24th 2020, Iwate Prefecture’s Ninohe City established their “Ninohe Food Diversity Declaration” to kick off their food diversity initiative in collaboration with local city businesses such as Nanbujin Co., Ltd., and Komatsu Seika Co., Ltd.
This initiative not only involves local businesses, but also public sector groups such as city of Ninohe, Iwate Prefecture Northern Promotion Bureau, and JETRO.
In addition to being an initiative to meet the needs of tourists and foreigners, as well as promote business practices that allow for global expansion, Ninohe City has also recognized this initiative as in line with its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The press conference was held at the Gonpachi Nishiazubu restaurant in Minato City, Tokyo, and VegeProject representative Haruko Kawano was also able to attend.
Both Nanbujin Co., Ltd., and Komatsu Seika Co., Ltd have used VegeProject’s “Vegan Certificate Mark” on some of their products.

In addition to Nanbujin’s Japanese wine and Komatsu Seika’s rice crackers, the event also served veggie sushi.
Ninohe City stands at the cutting edge by having initiatives such as this that promote vegan and Halal friendly foods, and we look forward to future developments.
