Inside and outside of Japan, the vegan lifestyle is becoming popular.

Vegan is recognized as a lifestyle which does not consume animal-based food and / or does not use animal-based products as much as possible. Now, alcoholic drinks also have this perspective.

Most alcoholic drinks do not have animal-based ingredients in its products themselves, however, alcoholic drinks’ manufacturing processes such as fining, sometimes contains animal products. Because of this, more and more people are getting interested in vegan alcoholic drinks which do not use manufacturing processes with animal products.

Yomiuri Shimbun introduced vegan alcoholic drinks including VegeProject’s vegan certificated ones at the end of 2020, and this January, English newspaper named  The Japan News by Yomiuri Shimbun also showed the topics (2021/1/19). 

 

 

From here, we will introduce some alcohol drinks companies which got vegan certificates from VegeProject Japan.

Shochu

Jyokai Times (2020/7/31)

“Kuma Shochu” from Yamato Ichishuzomoto Co., Ltd. , Hayashi Shuzou Co., Ltd, Fukano Shuzo Co., Ltd. , and SENGETSU SHUZO CO.,LTD. is introduced by alcohol specialized media as the first Shochu in the world, which got a vegan certificate. Kuma Shochu is Shochu made mainly from rice grown in  Hitoyoshi Kuma area.

 

The number of vegan options in alcoholic drinks is becoming bigger and bigger. You will be able to find out vegan options easily by checking the vegan mark.
