On September 23, 2025 (Tue, public holiday), Pinocchio, a community organization based in Kita-ku (Tokyo), will host an event titled “Learning Veganism, Knowing Food”.
Pinocchio operates a children’s cafeteria (a cafeteria where children can interact while enjoying free meals) in Kita City. Since last year, our organization (also located in Kita City) has been supporting Pinocchio in providing vegan food options.
*“Vegan food” refers to food made without any animal-derived ingredients.
The purpose of this event is to promote the introduction of vegan menus in the community, including the approximately 30 children’s cafeterias and schools within the City. It will provide an opportunity for children’s cafeteria staff, educators, government officials, and members of the public interested in food to learn about vegan food.
On the day, there will be a lecture and a tasting & networking session. In the lecture, Haruko Kawano, the representative of VegeProject Japan, will serve as lecturer. She will provide an overview on vegetarian and vegan food, its impact on society, and examples of vegan menu implementations by local governments and children’s cafeterias.

Food to be sampled during the event
In the tasting & networking session that follows, three companies that make use of VegeProject’s vegan certification will offer samplings: TableMark Co., Ltd., Azuma Foods Co., Ltd., and Nisshin Shokai Co., Ltd..
The samplings will include easy-to-introduce foods for cafeterias and school lunches, such as seafood alternatives, seasoned soy meat, croissants and sweets made without dairy or eggs, while engaging in interaction with manufacturers and other attendees.
*Menu items are subject to change.
Anyone is welcome to join, including children’s cafeteria staff, senior cafeteria staff, and residents of the ward, regardless of affiliation or place of residence. Please register and join us if you are interested.
