The 4th edition of the Christmas event held every December, “Christmas in the City Tokyo”, took place this year on December 13.
This event is hosted by the Choice-ful, an association which supports families raising children in Adachi Ward. Parents and children from households experiencing financial hardship took part, enjoying a heartwarming time through a buffet-style meal and the giving of presents, among other activities. Around 130 people participated this year.
This year, some of the dishes were provided in a vegan format, and our organization, VegeProject Japan, supported the event by helping sponsor vegan ingredients.

Vegan menu offerings
For this event, the following two VegeProject Japan vegan-certified products were provided as sponsorship. These ingredients were used in the buffet served on the day.
① Nihon Beauty Corporation Co., Ltd. “VEGAN Kuwa no Ha Bijin”
A green juice made with domestically grown, pesticide-free mulberry leaves as the base and blended with ingredients such as plant-based placenta and rice-derived lactic acid bacteria.
Mulberry leaves contain a well-balanced mix of dietary fiber and vitamins, and the addition of matcha helps reduce bitterness, resulting in an overall easy-to-drink flavor. In powder form, it can be used not only as a drink but also in a wide range of menu items such as cooking and desserts.

② JA Zen-Noh Tamago Co., Ltd. “Hatake kara Umareta Tamago”

A plant-based food made with ingredients such as domestically grown pumpkin, carrots, and white beans. While it contains no eggs at all, it recreates the flavor and texture of egg.
It comes in two varieties: a scrambled type and an egg-salad type. At this event, the scrambled-type plant-based “egg” was used in vegan-style soup and as a filling for onigiri.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone at Choice-ful who supported the vegan menu offerings at “Christmas in the City Tokyo”, as well as to all partner companies who provided vegan ingredients as sponsorship. We are glad to have played a part in offering food that is mindful of animals and the environment in an event dedicated to supporting people.
